If you are considering applying for a study visa in Winnipeg, Canada there are things you must consider when you decide to apply. First you must get a letter of acceptance from a DLI or designated learning institute in Canada. How you do you do that? Well, you have to decide on the field of study you wish to pursue and where you would like to study. Once you decide where you would like to study and what field then you apply to the DLI with the documentation that you need to get a letter of Acceptance. When you apply to DLI’s you will likely need to pay an application fee and that can vary from $100 to $300 Canadian dollars per application.
It is always recommended that you consider applying to 2 or more DLI’S. Why? Well, if you are planning on attending the next session in Canada (may be Sept or January session) you will have a better chance of getting a letter of acceptance if you apply to more then one School. If you apply to only one the chance you may not be accepted could affect when you start and you may have to wait an entire new session before you can start.
You should always take in consideration the DLI’S program and how it will affect your future work and Permanent resident possibilities. A good example of that is you may want to attend school that specializes in IT in Ontario or BC because they have PNP in those Provinces that are made around those areas of study and the job prospects may be higher in those provinces in that field of study. The point is if you study in an area that doesn’t not have much long-term prospect for a career in that province of study consider and educational facility that may give you better long-term employment. This is especially important when applying for a study visa in Winnipeg, Canada.
Ok. Secondly since you are applying for temporary status to come to Canada to go Educate you have to prove to the immigration official that you are indeed planning on only staying to educate and that you will leave once completion of your education has ended. This is a issue that I have always considered to be a very poor reason for immigration to reject applicants. Canada promotes our education system to teach highly skilled students. Telling them that they expect them to leave once complete is not sensible but that’s another topic.
So, the immigration official must feel that your educational plans are genuine and temporary in nature. So, in addition to meeting their concerns you must also meet the following guidelines
You must be aware that you may need additional documentation if requested by the officer or immigration. You must also be aware that when you arrive in Canada you must be able to continue to prove when you are at the point of entry that you do meet all these requirements if ask to produce them. The officer at the point of entry has the final say if you will be able to enter or not.
The processing time will vary from office to office depending on the visa office that you submitted your application. The Study Visa office in Winnipeg, Canada will review your application to ensure everything is completed correctly. If any errors are found, they will return the entire application to you. If you complete your application and even forget to check one box off that may seems minor, they will return the entire application to you as incomplete.
You should always start your application at a minimum of 3 months before you plan on coming to Canada. But I do recommend you do it at least 6 months prior. Many times, it will take up to 4 months to process and if immigration wants additional information or documentation this gives you the extra time you need to help with your submission.
If you chose to continue your studies in Canada beyond the initial study period you can apply to do that. However, you must be aware that you must meet the original requirements that you first applied with.
With your study permit you have the right to work to help with additional expenses while you are studying. You have two options available to you. You can work for 40 hours a week on campus or you have a second option of working for 20 hours a week off of campus, for this you will have to apply for a work permit and it will allow you to work for any Canadian employer. These are very important to know and if you vary from these you can be in violation of you study permit rules. You are also allowed to work full time during break times like between sessions and over summer holidays.
You must know that to qualify you must be a full-time student and be in a program that is more then 6 months in length. If you get a work permit you must know this doesn’t guarantee you work you must apply for work and you must always remember your studies come first. If you stop your studies and continue to work you are in violation of your student permit and could lose your status.
