IRCC updated instructions regarding admissibility concerns
On April 20, 2021, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) provided an update for the instruction to the officers assessing applications to transfer them to the Domestic Network’s Centre of Expertise in Security Cases if an application has passed eligibility assessment, while raises admissibility concerns under sections 34 (security grounds), 35 (human or international rights violations) and 37 (organized criminality) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA). IRCC has accordingly updated respective sections in the instructions for family class applications, Humanitarian and compassionate (H&C) consideration, healthcare workers permanent residence pathway, out-of-status construction workers in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), and Temporary resident permits.

Canadian Government introduced an update for Start-Up Visa processing
On April 21, 2021, the Government of Canada updated the instructions for the peer review process under the Start-Up Visa (SUV) Business Class. New instructions include updates in the program delivery and mainly concentrates on the incomplete peer-review process. During the peer review process, if the expert panel finds out some concerns or insufficient information, the SUV processing officer will send the applicant a procedural fairness letter advising them of their concerns. The applicant will be given 30 days to respond to the officer’s concerns after receiving the letter. If the applicant’s response to the procedural fairness letter provides new and relevant information, the officer will assess the file and determine whether to refuse or approve the application.

Upcoming International Recruitment Events in New Brunswick
New Brunswick announced the Sawmill and Woodworking Machine Operators 2021 online event to be held in May. Registration to the event which is available for Sawmill Machine Operators (NOC 9431) and (NOC 9437) Woodworking machine operators is still open. In addition, New Brunswick Virtual Recruitment Mission for Fish and Seafood Plant Workers and Labourers also accepts applications to the upcoming immigration session. Eligible applicants in the Aquaculture and marine harvest labourers (NOC 8613), Fish and seafood plant workers (NOC 9463) and Labourers in fish and seafood processing (NOC 9618) have to register before May 21, 2021. The Province also calls for Truck Drivers (NOC 7511) to participate in the virtual Transportation Recruitment session. In order to attend this session, applicants must get registered before June 11, 2021.

Canada to prioritize caregiver application processing
On April 15, 2021, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced the plan to accelerate caregiver application processing. According to the news release, Minister Marco Mendicino set a goal to complete 6,000 applications in the Home Child Care Provider (HCP) and Home Support Worker (HSW) pilots by the end of 2021. 1,500 of them must pass at least the first-stage approvals. In turn, it will allow more caregiver work permits to be issued for candidates who obtained valid job offers. IRCC also wants to increase the digitization of caregiver applications and ensure the receiving of the acknowledgements of receipt by May 31, 2021. As of March 3, 2021, there were about 12,000 caregiver applications on both pilots in the processing inventory. As of April 8, 2021, IRCC received 2,367 applications in the HCP and 516 HSW applications that can be accepted in 2021. 2,900 caregivers and their family members receive a PR status in 2020.
